GARDEN CITY, N.Y. (Apr. 15, 2017) - The No. 6/5 LIU Post women's lacrosse team dropped a 7-3 decision to top-ranked Adelphi University in a non-conference tilt Saturday at Motamed Field.

Sophomore midfielder Ryan McKinney (Downingtown, Pa.) opened the scoring in the first half with an unassisted goal at the 23:59 mark to stake the Pioneers (9-2) to an early 1-0 lead.

However, Adelphi (12-0) closed out the half on a three-goal run to bring a 3-1 advantage into the locker room.

In the latter session, red-shirt senior attacker Alexis Newman (Medford Lakes, N.J.) found the back of the cage just 1:45 into the period to pull the visitors within a goal at 3-2.

The Panthers responded again though, tallying four unanswered goals to seal the victory.

Senior attacker Jacqueline Jahelka (Garden City, N.Y.) and freshman attacker Alison Johnson (Middle Island, N.Y.) each notched a goal and an assist in the burst.

Newman recorded two goals on five shots in the loss. Senior attacker Connor Bird (Syosset, N.Y.) had two assists and two caused turnovers. Senior defender Cara Douglas (West Islip, N.Y.) and freshman midfielder Alyssa Mallery (Wantagh, N.Y.) forced two turnovers apiece. Douglas and Bird both scooped up two ground balls, as well.

Between the pipes, junior goaltender Olivia Kirk (Farmingdale, N.Y.) stopped a game-high 11 shots for LIU Post. It was her third game of the 2017 season with 10 saves or more.

Head Coach Meghan McNamara and the Pioneers return to action Thursday (Apr. 20), when they face No. 12/14 University of New Haven at 4 p.m. at Bethpage Federal Credit Union Stadium in Brookville.
