BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (May 11, 2017) - On Saturday, Apr. 29, the LIU Post men's and women's lacrosse teams joined together to host "Team Connor" Day to celebrate the courage and tenacity of children with cancer on Long Island.
The event, which was held in conjunction with the Pioneers' regular-season finales and Senior Day festivities, honored Connor Bradley and three-year-old Jino Masone. Both boys are currently being treated at the Cancer Center for Kids (CCFK) at NYU Winthrop Hospital.
As a tribute to Connor and Jino, the team and game-day staff asked for contributions at the gate to be donated to the CCFK. In addition, the proceeds from the afternoon's community auction benefited the Center's psychosocial programs and services.
The funds were also earmarked for the purchase of tickets to sporting events for Center patients and families, as well as gift cards for patient birthdays, supermarkets (to help with family grocery expenses) and gas stations (to offset fuel expenses traveling to and from the Center for treatment).
With its success attributable to the generosity and support of the LIU Post athletic staff, its team members and families, friends and neighbors from the surrounding communities, the event raised more than $8,250 for the Center.
"From supporting CCFK programs, to direct patient needs through various gift cards, Team Connor Day continues to greatly impact our families during a time of need," remarked CCFK Manager
Ashley Carlo. "The efforts of all involved bring countless smiles to our children and their families in such wonderful ways."
"This is a special event for LIU Post lacrosse to help such a great cause," said Head Men's Lacrosse Coach
John Jez. "I was pleased that we were able to do it in conjunction with our women's team this year. Through the hard work of our teams, families and friends, we were able to have another amazing day for this charity. We raised a significant amount of funds and had the opportunity to spend the day with two very special individuals."
