IMLCA Announces Tom Postel '65 as Hall of Fame Inductee

IMLCA ANNOUNCEMENT

BALTIMORE, Md. –
The illustrious legacy of LIU Post Hall of Famer Tom Postel '65 continued this week when the Intercollegiate Men's Lacrosse Coaches Association announced him as a member of its 2019 Hall of Fame Class.

Postel is one of six new inductees to the IMLCA Hall of Fame, joining Don Leet (St. Lawrence), William Schmeisser (Johns Hopkins), Cliff Stevenson (Oberlin, Brown), Dick Watts (Kenyon, UMBC), and Chuck Winters (SUNY Cortland). The Class of 2019 will officially be enshrined in the IMLCA Hall of Fame on December 6 during the group's induction ceremony at the Baltimore Waterfront Marriott.

A C.W. Post lacrosse alum, Postel holds multiple Pioneer lacrosse records, including all-time points (269), all-time assists (125), and single-season points (96, twice). During his playing career, he led the nation in scoring during the 1963 and 1965 seasons and became the first Pioneer to earn All-America recognition during the 1964 campaign. Upon graduation, Postel played one season of lacrosse for the Long Island Lacrosse Club before serving in Vietnam for three years. Upon his return home, Postel rekindled his playing career, spending another 16 seasons as a player. During that time he earned U.S. Club All-Star recognition 11 times, and received the National Club Advocate MVP Award twice. At the conclusion of his playing career, Postel was inducted into the National Lacrosse Foundation Hall of Fame in 1986.

During his career as a player, Postel began to give back to the game as a head coach. Following stops at Manhasset High School and Suffolk Community College, Postel returned to Brookville in 1986, taking the reins of the program from legendary head coach John Danowski. During his 20-year stint as head coach, Postel helped the Pioneers set several offensive records and helped the Green and Gold capture their first National Championship during the 1996 season. Postel continues to hold the LIU Post all-time wins record, compiling 140 wins during his tenure.
