No. 5 Women's Lacrosse Falls at Le Moyne in NCAA Quarters, 6-3

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (May 13, 2017) - The No. 5/5 and third-seeded LIU Post women's lacrosse team fell to No. 2/3 and second-seeded Le Moyne College by a 6-3 final in the quarterfinals of the 2017 NCAA Division II Championship at Ted Grant Field on Saturday.
The loss rounds out the 2017 season for the Pioneers at 16-3 overall. Meanwhile, the Dolphins (18-2) will advance to the national semifinals against No. 1/1 and top-seeded Adelphi University on Friday (May 19) in Bloomsburg, Pa.
The game featured an outstanding battle between the two goaltenders. Junior
Olivia Kirk (Farmingdale, N.Y.) made nine saves between the pipes for LIU Post. Her counterpart, Hannah George (Johnson City, N.Y.), stopped seven shots for Le Moyne.
Trailing 2-1 at the half, the Pioneers opened the scoring in the latter 30 minutes of play to level the score. Freshman midfielder
Alyssa Mallery (Wantagh, N.Y.) fled to the cage and beat George for the game-tying goal at the 20:40 mark.
However, the Dolphins tallied four of the final five goals of the contest to seal the victory.
Sophomore midfielder
Trish Brisotti (Mattituck, N.Y.) managed to cut the deficit to 4-3 with 10:41 left, but the hosts got goals from Sidney Hall (Adams Center, N.Y.) and Bryanna Fazio (Watertown, N.Y.) in the final minutes to put the game away.
In addition to scoring a goal, Mallery finished with three goals and two caused turnovers for LIU Post. Senior defenders
Kelly Backus (Oceanside, N.Y.) and
Cara Douglas (West Islip, N.Y.) scooped up four and three ground balls, respectively.
