Baseball Receives No. 4 Seed in NCAA Division II Championship

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (May 14, 2017) - The LIU Post baseball team has earned the No. 4 seed in the East Region of the 2017 NCAA Division II Championship, as announced in a selection show on Sunday night.

The Pioneers, who return to the NCAA Championship for the first time since 2010, will face fifth-seeded Felician University in their tournament opener on Thursday (May 18) at 7 p.m. at Southern New Hampshire University in Manchester, N.H.

The green and gold squared off against Felician in the regular season, winning 9-5 on Feb. 24 in Myrtle Beach, S.C. The Pioneers battled back from a 5-1 deficit in the contest, led by a seventh-inning grand slam from sophomore Anthony Vaglica (Franklin Square, N.Y.).

The victor of that contest will face top-seeded and No. 5 Southern New Hampshire, which received a first-round bye.

The other regional games feature No. 2 seed University of New Haven and seventh-seeded Dominican College and No. 3 seed St. Thomas Aquinas College and sixth-seeded Southern Connecticut State University.

The winner of the East Regional will advance to the NCAA Division II National Championship (May 27-Jun. 3) at The Ballpark in Grand Prairie in Grand Prairie, Texas.
