BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (May 6, 2017) - On Saturday, the No. 5/5 and top-seeded LIU Post women's lacrosse team won its third-straight East Coast Conference title with a 12-7 victory against No. 16/12 and fourth-seeded Mercy College at Bethpage Federal Credit Union Stadium in Brookville.

Between the pipes, junior goaltender Olivia Kirk (Farmingdale, N.Y.) made a career-high 18 saves in the win, en route to being named the Most Outstanding Player of the ECC Tournament for the second-consecutive year.

The Pioneers (15-2) opened the contest on a 5-1 run, behind two goals apiece from senior attacker Brianna LeCompte (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) and sophomore midfielder Ryan McKinney (Downingtown, Pa.).

The green and gold, which eventually led 6-2 at the break, had to stave off a fierce rally though by the Mavericks (16-3) in the second half.

Mercy twice pulled within a single goal of tying the score, but LIU Post responded late with four unanswered goals in a span of 5:48 to shut the door on their third league title in as many seasons.

Red-shirt senior attacker Alexis Newman (Medford Lakes, N.J.), freshman midfielder Alyssa Mallery (Wantagh, N.Y.) and McKinney all netted free-position goals in the run. Senior attacker Stefani Vagelatos (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y.) added a man-up tally.

McKinney led all players with three goals in the effort. LeCompte registered two goals and an assist for a three-point day. Mallery and Vagelatos each had two goals. Sophomore midfielder Trish Brisotti (Mattituck, N.Y.) pitched in a goal and an assist, while senior defender Cara Douglas (West Islip, N.Y.) tallied a goal and caused three turnovers.

Head Coach Meghan McNamara and her LIU Post squad now await word on a potential at-large bid to the NCAA Division II Championship. The selection show will air Sunday (May 7) at 8 p.m. on NCAA.com.
