INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (May 7, 2017) - For the second-straight year, the LIU Post women's lacrosse team has been selected to compete for a national title with its at-large bid to the 2017 NCAA Division II Championship.
The Pioneers, who are appearing in the NCAA Tournament for the 14th time in the program's history, garnered the No. 3 seed and will face sixth-seeded New York Institute of Technology in an opening-round match-up Friday (May 12) at 3 p.m. at Le Moyne's Ted Grant Field in Syracuse, N.Y.
Separated by just half a mile, the Pioneers earned a thrilling 12-11 overtime victory against the Bears in their first-ever meeting on Apr. 29. Senior attacker
Brianna LeCompte (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) tallied the game-winner for LIU Post in the extra session.
The winner of Friday's contest will play second-seeded Le Moyne College on Saturday (May 13) for the right to advance to the national semifinals at Bloomsburg University in Bloomsburg, Pa.
It is the second time in as many seasons that the Pioneers will travel to Syracuse for the opening weekend of the NCAA Tournament. In 2016, the green and gold defeated New Haven, 9-6, in the first round at Ted Grant Field, before dropping a 6-5 nailbiter to Le Moyne in the national quarterfinals.
