OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. - For the third straight week, senior
Talya Williams (Schenectady, N.Y.) was the top finisher out of non-Division II runners, this time as the LIU Post men's and women's cross country teams competed at the NYIT Invitational.
Williams finished the 5K course in a time of 18:24.77, less than 10 seconds behind the top Division I runner for a second place finish overall in the 99-runner pool. She led the 66 non-Division I runners by over a minute, as the second place finisher from St. Thomas Aquinas did not cross the line until 19:30.14.
Sophomore
Alexandria Okon (22:08.72) and junior
Kaitie Schillaci (22:34.31)
finished in 15th and 20th places, respectively, to round out the top three finishers for the Pioneers leading to a third-place team finish out of the nine non-Division I teams.
On the men's side, freshmen
Joe Dorso (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) and
Andrew Gleave (Seaford, N.Y.) completed the 8,000-meter run a second apart to pace the Pioneers with 26th- and 27th-best finishes. Sophomore
Erick Rivera (Amityville, N.Y.) was not too far behind as he secured a time of 29:55.16.
As a team, the Pioneer men finished seventh out of the 10 non-Division I teams.
Next weekend (Sept. 23), the Pioneers host the LIU Post Invitational. The women's 5k is set to kickoff at 10 a.m. with the men's 8k following at 11 a.m.
