THE FIRST LOOK
Round three. Something has to give between these two bitter East Coast Conference rivals as the LIU Post Pioneers (14-3-4) look to capture the NCAA Division II East Region title against the University of Bridgeport (16-4-1). Bridgeport was victory during the first two meetings, including a 2-1 victory during the ECC championship match two weeks ago.
INSIDE THE SERIES
Friday will be the 32nd meeting between the two squads with Bridgeport holding an 18-10-3 advantage. Bridgeport won the previous meeting at Knights Field on Nov. 3, 2-1. Sophomore
Samantha Gordon scored the only goal for the Pioneers, and a late red card and penalty kick awarded to the Purple Knights was the difference in the match.
SCOUTING REPORT
LIU Post
The Pioneers are rolling so far in the NCAA tournament, knocking off top-seeded Franklin Pierce University, 3-1 during a dominating performance at Sodexo Field during the second round. LIU Post has conceded just one goal in 200 minutes of action during the national championship. Senior goalkeeper
Hillevi Eklow has played outstanding, making four saves during regulation and two saves during penalty kicks against Southern New Hampshire University in round one.
Bridgeport
Junior Maegen Doyle was tabbed as the Division II Conference Commissioners Association East Region Player of the Year earlier this week and she has been the Achilles heel for the Pioneers this season. Doyle has netted three goals in two games, including the game-winner during both matches.
Bridgeport's defensive unit played well against the Pioneers much of the match during the ECC championship, holding the Green and Gold without a shot during the opening 45 minutes. The defense will need to play well again because you can expect LIU Post to come out swinging as the look to advance to the quarterfinal round
