BROOKVILLE, N.Y. – The LIU Post women's volleyball team suffered a 3-0 (25-21, 29-27, 26-24) setback against Molloy College on senior night Friday night inside the Pratt Recreation Center.
The Pioneers record is now 18-12 overall and 9-5 in the East Coast Conference. LIU Post's all-time record against Molloy is now 29-8.
The Green and Gold came out on top in two statistical categories; kills 36-34 and total blocks 4-1.
Match Rewind
The Pioneers started the opening set on a high note as they quickly took a 5-1 lead capped off by a junior
Samantha Colombo service ace. While LIU Post held an 11-10 lead the Lions went on a 4-0 run and never looked back from that point as they went on to win the set 25-21.
LIU Post started the second set on a 4-0 run keyed by a kill from sophomore
Asiya Way and also featuring a Colombo service ace and kills by Londot and junior
Abby Eckhardt. LIU Post used another 4-0 to run give itself a 13-7 lead but Molloy responded with a 5-0 run and battled their way back to take a 20-19 lead. A kill by Way from an assist by junior
Kassie Akouri-Tejedor gave the Pioneers a 23-22 lead but the remainder of the set played out as a back-and-forth battle. A Londot kill gave LIU Post a 26-25 lead but the Pioneers could not maintain their lead as the Lions prevailed 29-27.
Molloy raced out to a 7-2 lead in the early stages of the third set then used a 5-0 run to take a 19-11 advantage. Back-to-back kills by freshman
Kiora Ridgeway and a Lion attacking error helped narrowed the margin to 22-1; the Pioneers continued to reduce the deficit and a Molloy attacking error saw LIU Post tie the score 22-22. A double-block by Colombo and senior
Elise Strange tied the score 23-23 but the Lions went on to take the set 26-24.
