Women’s Swimming Has Strong Start to ECAC Championships

Pioneers finish first of non-division I programs on opening day of competition

EAST MEADOW, N.Y. –
The LIU Post women's swimming team opened competition at the 2018 Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference Winter Swimming & Diving Championships Friday evening at the Nassau County Aquatic Center and concluded the day in first-place of non-division I programs.
 
The Pioneers finished with 92 points and along with being first of non-division I teams they also finished tenth of 17 teams overall.
 
The night began with the 200-yard medley relay; the team of senior Karis Fuller, freshman Elissa Roose, senior Tove Sparrman and junior Jessica Argelander clocked in at 1:48.71 seconds to finish first of non-division I programs and ninth of 32 teams overall.
 
Sophomore Britney Caprio, junior Elizabeth Law, sophomore Alex Cordova and freshman Lauren Beyer posted a mark of 1:55.63 seconds to finish 24th overall.
 
In the 1,650 freestyle sophomore Emily Shoup finished sixth overall and was the top non-division I finisher after touching the wall at a personal-best 17:52.92 seconds.
 
LIU Post was again the top non-division I finisher in the 800 freestyle relay and finished 14th of 26 teams overall after Law, sophomore Corina Reed, Cordova and Sparrman finished with a time of 8:05.38 seconds.

LIU Post returns to competition at the ECAC Championships tomorrow at 10:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. for the second day of the meet. The event schedule is as follows:
