THE FIRST LOOK
The LIU Post women's soccer team (13-3-3) earned an at-large bid into the NCAA Division II Women's Soccer Championship after coming up just short in a 2-1 loss at the University of Bridgeport during the East Coast Conference title match.
Southern New Hampshire (14-4-2) also earned an at-large bid into the national tournament after dropping a 2-0 decision to Assumption College during the Northeast-10 Conference semifinal round.
INSIDE THE SERIES
Friday marks the 11th all-time meeting between the two teams, with LIU Post holding a 7-3 advantage during the series. The Pioneers suffered their first loss of the season, however, during the last matchup on Sept. 2 when the Penmen earned a 3-1 victory.
LIU Post has held the edge in recent history, winning five of the last six matchups, including two neutral-site matchups.
SCOUTING REPORT
LIU Post
LIU Post is 1-1 in neutral site games this year, defeating Southern Connecticut State University and dropping the matchup with the Penmen. It will take a total team effort on the defensive end to slow down Southern New Hampshire, as the Pioneers will be without junior
Paige Sherlock who will be serving a one-game suspension after being assessed a red card during the ECC championship.
The offense has been outstanding as of late, scoring 18 goals during the team's last six contests. One of the catalysts in the midfield is junior
Gabrielle Clark who has been an outstanding two-way player this season, earning first team All-ECC accolades earlier this week. Classmate
Julia Duffy, a second-team all-conferenec recipient, leads the Green and Gold with 12 goals on the year.
Senior
Hillevi Eklow earned her second ECC Goalkeeper of the Year accolade on Monday after posting a league-best nine shutouts while compiling a 13-3-3 record with 70 saves and a 0.81 goals-against average.
Southern New Hampshire
Southern New Hampshire earned nine All-NE10 honorees last week, including two first team members in senior Ariana Silvia and Samantha Sparda. Silvia serves a very similar role to Clark, a dynamic two-way player who is one of the best defenders in the midfield for the Penmen. Also helping to lock down opponents on the defensive end is Sparda who captains a back line that ranked third in the NE10 with 0.91 goals allowed per game.
On the offensive end, 13 different players have scored for Southern New Hampshire this season, with senior Danielle Humphreys leading the way with eight goals and seven assists for 23 points. The Penmen use a tactical effort in the offensive third of the field, assisting on 36 of their 42 goals this season.
In goal, freshman Hannah Rose has seen the majority of the playing time, starting all 19 of her appearances and logging over 1,700 minutes between the pipes. Rose compiled 81 saves and a 0.97 goals-against average for a 13-4-2 record.
