BROOKVILLE, N.Y. – Despite only playing two contests last week, the LIU Post baseball team improved to No. 7 in the latest National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association east region poll as announced March 19.
 
The Pioneers split a doubleheader series with Dominican College on March 17. Junior James Varela tossed a two-hit shutout in game two, striking out nine and extending his scoreless innings streak to 19.2 in the win.
 
LIU Post dropped a non-conference matchup with regionally ranked Adelphi University on Monday, and will look to bounce back this weekend when they open East Coast Conference play against New York Institute of Technology on Friday, March 23.
