BROOKVILLE, N.Y. – The LIU Post Department of Athletics is pleased to announce the addition of club women's ice hockey beginning in Fall 2018.
"We are excited to launch club women's ice hockey, and the timing could not be better," LIU Post Senior Associate Director of Recreational Sports,
Rick Hamilton said. "With the United States women's national team earning gold at Pyeongchang a few short weeks ago, we hope that we can build excitement on campus for the sport."
The department also announced
Mike Zguris as the inaugural head coach of the team. Zguris, a Level 5 USA Ice Hockey Coach, brings a rich coaching history to the program. For 25 years he coached at the high school level, earning three coach of the year accolades, while also adding nine years of collegiate experience. Under his guidance, four former players have reached the National Hockey League during their respective careers.
"I am thrilled with the addition of club women's ice hockey at LIU Post, and I am looking forward to the opportunity to be a part of this launch," said Zguris. "Being the only club program on Long Island and with the amount of attention and excitement surrounding women's hockey after the Olympics, I believe that we can grow the program quickly this fall."
