BROOKVILLE, N.Y. – Following a four-game sweep of Queens College in East Coast Conference action last weekend, the LIU Post baseball team moved up to No. 6 in the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association east region rankings this week.
The Pioneers finished the week 4-1, suffering a setback to regionally ranked Pace University in non-conference action on a rain soaked afternoon April 4 before sweeping the Knights over the weekend. Junior
James Varela led an impressive pitching performance by the Pioneer staff, recording his fifth consecutive complete game, going all 10 innings in a 3-1 extra-inning victory in the series opener. The Pioneers allowed just three runs during the four-game series, compiling a 0.77 earned run average as a staff. Freshman
Joseph Valentino added a four-hit shutout in the third game of the series for his second victory of the season.
LIU Post returns to action Wednesday, April 11 when they host East Stroudsburg University in non-conference action at 3:30 p.m.
