PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Graduate student Stefan Adams broke a 40-year old program record in the 400-meter dash to highlight the LIU Post track & field teams at the Metropolitan Intercollegiate Championships at Rutgers University April 14.

Adams clocked a time of 47.03 seconds, breaking the previous mark of 47.40 seconds set by Bob Ancona in 1975. Adams took first in the event, besting Rutgers' Izaiah Brown by over .6 second. The 10 points for the win helped lead the men's team to an eighth place finish at the championships. The Jamaica native added a first-place finish in the 200-meter dash as well, crossing the line in 21.93 seconds.

Freshman Jaelin Hood recorded time of 49.86 seconds in the 400, finishing ninth overall. Fellow freshmen Destyn Harding and Jahmel Johnson fared well in the 100-meter dash, recording times of 11.17 and 11.15 seconds, respectively, with Harding winning the fourth heat. Harding added a time of 11.12 seconds in the finals, taking fourth place. Freshman Joseph Valez and sophomore Justin Ortega earned points in the 110-meter hurdles, with Valez taking fourth and Ortega finishing just behind in fifth. Ortega later added a ninth-place finish in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:00.08.

Sophomore Jeffrey Reyes nearly recorded a new personal-best time in the 1,500-meter run recording a time of 4:06.44.

On the women's side, the Pioneers finished ninth overall. Senior Talya Williams led the way with a second-place finish in the 5,000-meter run, finishing behind only Jessica Scheriff of Iona College. Sophomore Alexandria Okon was impressive in the 800-meter run, recording a new personal-best time of 2:18.39 to finish fifth.

In the field events, sophomore Kaitlyn Klein and freshman Alyssa Farrell each scored for LIU Post. Farrell recorded a throw of 39.91 meters in the hammer throw to finish sixth, while Klein finished fifth in the shot put with a personal-best throw of 12.81 meters.

The Pioneers return to action next weekend at the East Coast Conference Championships in Buffalo, N.Y. on Saturday, April 21.
