Sophomore
Katie Humhej and junior
James Varela earned the softball and baseball pitcher of the week, while sophomore
Alyssa Mallery captured women's lacrosse Offensive Player of the Week and graduate student
Stefan Adams was named the Men's Track Athlete of the Week.
Humhej was outstanding in the circle this week, going a perfect 3-0 over 21 innings to claim her second weekly accolade this season. During the week, Humhej tossed a three-hit shutout against Molloy and added a four-hit shutout against Bridgeport.
On the mound, nobody has been more dominant this season than Varela. The junior threw his sixth consecutive complete game this week, going the distance to earn his eighth win of the year in a 2-1 victory against Southern Connecticut State. Varela allowed just three hits and one run while striking out a career-high 13 batters along the way.
Despite limited action in an 18-2 victory against St. Thomas Aquinas, Mallery lit up the stat sheet against Mercy in a battle for first-place in the ECC standings. The sophomore tallied an ECC season-high and career-high 12 points in the win, scoring eight goals and adding four assists while also snagging eight draw controls to help the Pioneers score a new program-record 25 goals.
Adams bested the competition once again on the track this weekend at the Metropolitan Intercollegiate Championships, breaking a 40-year old program record in the 400-meter dash. The Jamaica native clocked a time of 47.03 seconds to earn the win, recording the sixth-fastest time in Division II this season in the process.
