Women's Lax Announces April 7 as 3rd Annual Play for a Cause Game

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. – Head coach Meghan McNamara and the LIU Post women's lacrosse team announced that it will hold its third annual Play for a Cause charity game against No. 2/3 Adelphi University on Saturday, April 7 at Bethpage Federal Credit Union Stadium.

Along with the contest between the Pioneers and Panthers, the second annual LIU Post and Adelphi Alumni vs. Alumni charity game will also take place on April 7. The annual tradition between two universities is renewed for another season, as alumni from both programs are invited to participate in a friendly contest in conjunction with the 2:00 p.m. matchup with potential NCAA Tournament implications.

As part of the Play for a Cause Game, the host university chooses a charitable cause to play in honor of and help raise monetary funds for. This year, the Pioneers and Panthers will be playing in support of Kieran Patrick Meekins, the son of LIU Post alum and 2007 National Champion Kristy Meekins (Abrams). Kieran was diagnosed with cerebral palsy at a young age and is a candidate for a new, potential life-changing surgery. LIU Post and Adelphi will wear special t-shirts during pre-game warmups with a green ribbon and #CPStrong inscribed to show support for Kieran and all who suffer from cerebral palsy.

Rather than charging admission for Saturday's contest, LIU Post is asking that each fan in attendance make a minimum $5 donation that will assist in the medical expenses associated with Kieran's surgery.
