THE FIRST LOOK
The LIU Post women's lacrosse team secured the No. 1 overall seed for the East Coast Conference Championship with an unblemished 8-0 record in league play this season. The Pioneers enter the postseason as winners of their last 24 ECC contests dating back to 2016 and are ins search of their fourth consecutive conference title.
The fourth-seeded Lions advanced to the semifinal round of the tournament with a 21-13 victory against fifth-seeded Roberts Wesleyan College on Tuesday, May 1.
INSIDE THE SERIES
LIU Post is a perfect 15-0 against Molloy in the 13-year history of the series. The Pioneers have outscored the Lions 269-76 and have never scored fewer than 15 goals in a contest.
LAST TIME THEY MET
The two squads last faced off on March 23 when the Pioneers earned a 15-6 victory at Bethpage Federal Credit Union Stadium. Eight different players scored for LIU Post, led by three-goal efforts from sophomores
Paige Sherlock and
Alyssa Mallery. Senior
Olivia Kirk made 11 saves in goal, while the defense helped the Pioneers hold a 13-8 advantage in turnovers and the Green and Gold notched 19 clears on 22 attempts.
SCOUTING THE PIONEERS
LIU Post is an offensive-minded squad, outscoring opponents 246-151 this season, including a 138-50 mark in conference play. As a team, the Pioneers average over 14 goals per game overall and over 17 against ECC opponents. Mallery leads the offensive efforts with 65 goals this season and needs just four goals to eclipse the century mark for her career. Sophomore
Jill LoManto has been an excellent distributor this season, ranking third in the ECC with 31 assists at the attack position. LoManto has recorded an assist in 11 games this season, including six games with three or more helpers.
The Pioneers have also smothered opponents on the defensive end, as junior
Carly Spano captains a back line that has held opponents to six or fewer goals in eight games. Freshman
Alyssa Boll, and sophomore
Casey Dugan,
Maddie Titus and
Kendall Purdy have all played big roles on the defensive end, helping shut down opponents' offenses and compiling an .836 success rate on clear attempts.
Between the pipes, senior
Olivia Kirk has put together another outstanding season. Kirk ranks sixth in the nation with a .529 save percentage and ranks second in the conference with a 9.73 goals-against average.
SCOUTING THE LIONS
Molloy enters Thursday's semifinal on a three-game winning streak after dropping consecutive contests to nationally ranked New York Institute of Technology and the University of Bridgeport. During the winning streak the Lions have averaged 19.0 goals per game, outscoring opponents by nearly nine goals.
The Lions are very similar to the Pioneers offensively, scoring 257 goals this season but have also allowed 199 goals on the opposite end.
Jessica Markowitz leads the Lions with 65 goals, matching Mallery for third-most in the ECC. Molloy averages 25 shots on goal per game and has recorded an assist on slightly more than half of its tallies.
Defensively the Lions hold just a +9 edge in turnovers this season, but like LIU Post has cleared over 80 percent of their clear attempts.
Alexandra Long and
Jessica Carere have split time in goal, combining for a .436 save percentage and 11.08 goals-against average. Long is projected to make her 15th start between the pipes against the Pioneers.
