5 Things to Know This Week in LIU Post Athletics!

Last Week in Review
 
It was a memorable weekend for LIU Post athletics as Hall of Famer Dom Anile was honored Friday evening and prior to kickoff of Saturday's 38-3 rout of Bentley. His two sons, Dom and Gary, were presented with two football helmets and a No. 62 jersey, the number worn by Anile as a player at LIU Post.
 
Both the men's and women's soccer teams had perfect weeks as the women's soccer team defeated Wilmington University 4-1on Thursday, Sept. 20 and Molloy College 3-0 on Saturday, Sept. 22. The Pioneer men overcame Molloy 3-0 on Sept. 22 to round out an unbeaten week for the Pioneer soccer programs.
 
Field hockey earned a come-from-behind win over Saint Anslem University on Sunday, Sept. 23 thanks to goals by senior duo Tarryn Morris and Emily Miller.
 
The women's volleyball team split its matches, first defeating Roberts Wesleyan College 3-1 (25-20, 25-21, 21-25, 25-22) before falling 3-1 (25-14, 20-25, 25-23, 29-27),
 
Men's and women's cross country hosted the LIU Post Cross Country Invitational on Sept. 22; the Pioneer women finished first and were led by freshman Margaret McKeever who finished third while the men finished fifth sophomore Andrew Gleave the top finisher, taking 13th.
 
The Pioneers had five weekly award winners with graduate student Sam Laviano of the football team named Northeast-10 Football Offensive Player of the Week, sophomore goalkeeper Rachel Vellis of the field hockey team named NE10 Goalkeeper of the Week, graduate student Lukas Ostermann of the men's soccer team named ECC Offensive Player of the Week, McKeever of the women's cross country team named ECC Runner of the Week and freshman Anita Mikowski of the women's Cross Country team named ECC Rookie of the Week.
 
Also of note was the 2018-19 schedules were released for men's basketball, women's basketball and women's swimming while the 2018 fall equestrian schedule was also released.

Five Things to Watch for This Week
 
1. Light Week
 
Outside of a packed Saturday for the Pioneers there will only be four contests during the week; on Wednesday Sept. 26 women's soccer hosts Pace University and women's tennis takes on Queens University then on Friday, Sept. 28 women's tennis hosts Molloy College at 3:00 p.m. and women's volleyball hosts Mercy College at 7:00 p.m.
  
2. Football Looks to Remain Unbeaten
 
Football will look to move to 4-0 when it travels North Andover, Massachusetts, to take on Merrimack College at 1:00 p.m. The Pioneers are 12-3 all-time against Merrimack, most recently defeating them 49-7 on Saturday, Nov. 4, 2017 at Bethpage Federal Credit Union Stadium.
 
3. Men's Soccer Goes for Six-Straight Wins
 
After the Pioneer's 3-0 defeat of Molloy on Saturday, Sept. 22 the Pioneers aim for their sixth-consecutive victory against Queens on Wednesday, Sept. 26. LIU Post has a 10-1-1 all-time record against Queens with the most recent match between the two squads ending in a 1-1 tie on Saturday, Oct. 7, 2017. The Pioneers' have been led by Ostermann, who currently leads the ECC in points with 19 and is tied for the lead in goals with eight.

4. Women's Volleyball Service Game Stays Strong
 
Women's volleyball leads the ECC in service aces with 123 and service aces per set with 2.12. Junior Samantha Colombo has made an impact in her first year with the Pioneers as she leads the conference in service aces with 36 and service aces per set with 0.64. 

 
5. Field Hockey Surging
 
Field hockey has beaten three Northeast 10 opponents in its past three games and will look to continue its streak on Saturday, Sept. 23 when it takes on Saint Michael's College at 11:00 a.m. at Christopher M. Duffy Field in Colchester, Vermont.
