NCBWA RELEASE
 
Bridgeport, Conn. – Senior James Varela of the LIU Post baseball team was honored as the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) East Region Pitcher of the Week, as announced by the organization Tuesday.
 
Varela was honored following his shutout in the Pioneers 5-0 win against East Stroudsburg University on Friday, March 9 at the USA Baseball Complex in Cary, North Carolina. Along with going the distance and not allowing he a run he also limited the Warriors to four hits.
 
This is Varela's third weekly honor of the season as he was also named East Coast Conference (ECC) Pitcher of the Week on Monday, March 11 and Monday, February 18.
 
Varela and the Pioneers will be in action next when they host Assumption College (8-4) in a four-game series, beginning with a doubleheader on Saturday, March 16 at 12:00 p.m. at the LIU Post Baseball Stadium.
