BROOKVILLE, N.Y. – The No. 6/5 LIU Post men's lacrosse team suffered its first loss of the season on Saturday, March 2 when it fell in non-conference action to No. 12/11 Pace University, 10-7 at Bethpage Federal Credit Union Stadium.
 
In a game delayed by an hour by an overnight snow storm, the Pioneers came out hot early, but were quickly stifled by a suffocating defense by the Setters. LIU Post scored the first two goals of the contest before Pace scored six unanswered goals to take a 6-2 advantage midway through the second quarter. The Pioneers tacked on a goal late in the half to trail by three goals (6-3) at the halftime break.
 
Pace scored the first goal of the second half to extend the lead to four goals, its highest of the contest. The Pioneers scored four of the next five goals, cutting the deficit to just one goal (8-7) with 13:41 remaining. Following seven scoreless minutes, Pace found the back of the net and eventually tallied a final goal to put the game out of reach.
 
Sophomore William Snelders tallied three goals on the day to lead the Pioneers. Senior Steven Frank added three points with one goal and two assists, while four other Pioneers scored one goal apiece. Both sides tallied an even 19 shots on goals apiece. Senior goalkeeper Bryan Ochs notched nine saves on the day and classmate Connor Farrell finished 16-of-20 (.750) on faceoffs and grabbed 14 ground balls on the day.
 
The Pioneers returned to action on Saturday, March 9 for a matchup with reigning national champion Merrimack College at Bethpage Federal Credit Union Stadium at 2:30 p.m.
