PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The LIU Post women's rugby team continued its spring season Saturday afternoon at the Brown University Sevens Tournament at Marvel Field. The Pioneers were highly-competitive throughout the day, picking up a 22-5 victory over the Brown B team.
Freshman
Chanel Lubsey was a handful for opposing defenders as she led the Pioneers with four tries on the day. Freshman
Brianna Thomas finished with two tries.
Match One – Army B 31, LIU Post 0
LIU Post opened the day with a 31-0 setback against the Army B team.
Match Two – Sacred Heart University 17, LIU Post 10
The Pioneers' play was much-improved in their second match. While they was down 12-0 at halftime, the second half proved to be a back-and-forth battle. Lubsey scored early in the half and while Sacred Heart followed with a try of their own, Lubsey responded with another try late in the contest. Unfortunately, SHU held on for the 17-10 victory,
Match Three – LIU Post 22, Brown B 5
The Pioneers best match of the day came against the Brown B team. Lubsey scored a pair of tries while Thomas and sophomore
Tatyanna Ogbue added one apiece. Freshman
Calah Turpin successfully converted Ogbue's try as LIU Post prevailed 22-5.
Match Four – Molloy College 22, LIU Post 5
In a rematch from the Pioneers epic triumph over the Lions in a best two-out-three series two weekends ago, it was Molloy who previailed on this occasion. Thomas scored her second try of the day but the Lions were victorious, 22-5.
