Doherty Announces 2019 Women’s Rugby Schedule

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. – Long Island University women's rugby head coach Colleen Doherty announced the Sharks' 2019 schedule Thursday afternoon. LIU's schedule features three home matches at Robert Blitz Field and eight total regular season matches.
 
"We are extremely excited to announce our upcoming fall 2019 schedule in our inaugural year competing as an NCAA Division I program," said Doherty. "The entire match schedule will challenge us against some of the top teams in the country for women's rugby but we are confident that with our mix of returners and a large incoming class it will make for an exciting season. The team is energized by the fact that they are in a unique position to start the legacy of the LIU Sharks women's rugby team and are eager to make splash in the National Intercollegiate Rugby Association (NIRA) conference."
 
LIU opens its season in Providence, Rhode Island, against Brown University on Saturday, August 31 then hosts Sacred Heart University in its home opener on Saturday, September 7.
 
The Sharks then take on Queens College on the East Campus Lower Turf on the campus of James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Virginia, on Saturday, September 14 followed by Molloy College on Sunday, September 22 in Rockville Center, New York.
 
LIU's next opponent is Mount Saint Mary's University, with the match taking place on Saturday, September 28 in Emmitsburg, Maryland.
 
The Sharks close out the regular season with a two out of its final matches at Robert Blitz Field. LIU takes on American International College on Saturday, October 12 at Robert Blitz Field, follows with a match against Castleton University in Castleton, Vermont, on Sunday, October 20 then wraps up the regular season at home against West Chester University on Saturday, October 26.
 
Postseason play commences on Saturday, November 10 with the NIRA semifinals hosted by the higher seed and continues on Saturday, November 17 with the NIRA Championship match at a venue to be determined.
