Five Second Half Goals Propel No. 6 Field Hockey Past Mansfield, 5-2

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Sept. 19, 2010)
– Senior forward Amanda Nann (Hamburg, N.J.) and freshman forward Carlee Dragon (Bridgewater, N.J.) each scored two second half goals to lead sixth-ranked C.W. Post to Sunday afternoon's 5-2 non-conference victory over Mansfield University on Hickox Field.
C.W. Post improves to 4-0 overall while Mansfield slips to 1-4.
C.W. Post held a significant lead in shots (38-15) and had a 12-9 advantage on penalty corners.
Mansfield scored the game's first goal in the 11th minute when sophomore midfielder Kristyn Grunza (Nicholson, Pa.) fired in a hard line shot from 15 yards out into the right corner of the goal, giving the Mounties a 1-0 lead that would last through the first half.
The Pioneer offense regained its momentum in the second stanza with five goals, the tying goal coming in the 45th minute when Dragon beat out Mansfield's goalkeeper in a one-on-one situation.
Nann put the home team ahead with a score from out front on a pass from junior midfielder Brie-Claire Drost (Wading River, N.Y.) in the 47th minute.
Dragon and junior defender Helene Bruckner (Port Jefferson, N.Y.) each added goals only minutes apart from each other at 53:43 and 55:37 to put the Pioneers ahead, 4-1.
Mansfield scored its second goal when junior defender Jillian Richards (Macedon, Pa.) capitalized on a penalty stroke at 59:49.
Sophomore forward Mia Paltrineri (Middleton, Del.) scored the game's final goal at 65:08 with a 10-yard shot from the right side.
The Pioneers received a strong helping from defense as senior defender Vicky DeRosa (Wading River, N.Y.) made a defensive save in the first half and sophomore midfielder Kellie Finn (Goshen, Conn.) made a pair of saves in goal in the second half.
Senior goalkeeper Cortney Colern (Barker, N.Y.) stopped 10 shots on goal to improve her record to 3-0 this season.
Mansfield goalkeeper Jamie Twist (Rochester, N.Y.) had a busy day in the cage, making 24 saves.
C.W. Post returns to action on Tuesday, Sept. 21 when it heads to East Stroudsburg for a 4 p.m. meeting with the Warriors.
