Men's and Women's Cross Country Take NJIT Challenge

NEWARK, N.J. (Oct. 5, 2013) - The LIU Post men's and women's cross country teams both came away on top in the Division II/III races at the Technology XC Challenge on Saturday at Branch Brook Park in Newark, N.J., hosted by NJIT.
For the women, Jenn McLaughlin (Seaford, N.Y.) paced the Pioneers with a third-place finish in the Division II/III 5,000-meter race. She clocked a new school-record time of 18:47.11. Elizabeth Stirling (Wantagh, N.Y.) wasn't far behind, finishing fifth (18:57.18). Her clip is now the second-fastest in school history in the 5k. Angelica Price (Tampa, Fla.) posted a 13th-place showing (19:37.50), while Alexa Montegari (Wanaque, N.J.) placed 18th (20:15.27). Jessica Wiking (Farmingdale, N.Y.) finished 23rd (20:26.51), Shaylyn Stehl (Wantagh, N.Y.) was 27th (20:47.12), and Sara McLaughlin (Seaford, N.Y.) (30th, 20:51.56) and Brooke Rozea (Syosset, N.Y.) (45th, 21:36.66) wrapped up the times for the green and gold.
On the men's side, Joseph Lasher (Seaford, N.Y.) led the Pioneers with a new personal-best time of 25:37.55 in the 8,000-meter race. Matt O'Keefe (East Rockaway, N.Y.) finished in 11th place, with a time of 26:40.84, while Steven Arnone (Staten Island) wasn't far behind in 13th (26:42.87). Freshman Tyler McGarvey (Babylon, N.Y.) recorded a new personal-best with a clocking of 27:14.58, which was good enough for a 19th-place effort. Thomas Speicher (Levittown, N.Y.) (27:17.08) and Mike Scott (Fultonville, N.Y.) (27:21.31) wrapped up the times for the Pioneers.
Head Coach Rob Morris and his LIU Post squads are back in action next Saturday, Oct. 12, when they travel to Newark, Del. for the Delaware Blue & Gold Invitational.
