Cross Country Teams Compete at NCAA DII East Region Meet

BOSTON, Mass. (Nov. 10, 2013) - The LIU Post men's and women's cross country squads raced in the NCAA Division II East Region Championships Sunday at Franklin Park in Boston, Mass. The men secured an eighth-place showing, while the women's team finished 10th.
Both the men's and women's programs were the highest-finishing East Coast Conference teams in the event.
Red-shirt senior
Matt O'Keefe (East Rockaway, N.Y.) paced the men, finishing 10th with a time of 32:15.00 on the 10-kilometer course, good for eighth-best in Pioneer history. Just 10 seconds behind was senior
Joseph Lasher (Seaford, N.Y.) in 14th place (32:25.20). By finishing in the Top-25, both O'Keefe and Lasher garnered All-Region honors.
The next finisher for the Pioneers was sophomore
Steven Arnone (Staten Island, N.Y.), who crossed the line at a 33:40.10 clocking. Rounding out the Top-5 for LIU Post were senior
Thomas Speicher (Levittown, N.Y.) and freshman
Tyler McGarvey (Babylon, N.Y.). Speicher was 80th (34:35.80), while McGarvey placed 91st (35:02.70).
The Pioneer women had seven runners compete with sophomore Elizabeth Stirling (Wantagh, N.Y.) leading the way with a 23rd-place finish, completing the six-kilometer race in 23:25.10. Her effort granted her a spot on the All-Region team. The next to finish was senior Jenn McLaughlin (Seaford, N.Y.) in 43rd place with a clip of 24:06.60. McLaughlin improved her eighth-best time in Pioneer history by one second.
Junior Alexa Montegari (Wanaque, N.J.), in 68th, and senior Angelica Price (Tampa, Fla.), in 75th, finished within nine seconds of each other with times of 24:53.40 and 25:02.20, respectively. The next three Pioneers to cross the line finished in 100th, 102nd, and 105th. Red-shirt sophomore Jessica Wiking (Farmingdale, N.Y.) registered a clocking of 25:48.50. Junior Brooke Rozea (Syosset, N.Y.) finished only 3.4 seconds later at 25:52.00, and junior Shaylyn Stehl (Wantagh, N.Y.) was close behind with a time of 25:56.70.
