Men's and Women's Cross Country Take LIU Post Invitational

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Sept. 14, 2013) - In the second cross country meet of the 2013 season on Saturday, the men's and women's teams both came out on top in the LIU Post Invitational in Brookville, N.Y.
For the men, Mike Scott (Fultonville, N.Y.) led the way, placing third in the Division II, III and Junior College 8,000-meter race with a personal-best 25:40.94. Right behind him was Joseph Lasher (Seaford, N.Y.) (25:54.65) in fourth place with his personal best. Red-shirt senior Matt O'Keefe (East Rockaway, N.Y.) was sixth (26:19.53), while Steven Arnone (Staten Island, N.Y.) rounded out the Top-10 with a new personal-best of 26:33.76. Senior Thomas Speicher (Levittown, N.Y.) finished behind Arnone with a time of 26:37.98. Freshman Tyler McGarvey (Babylon, N.Y.) rounded out the Pioneer runners in 24th place with his new personal-best at 27:20.55.
For the women, Elizabeth Stirling (Wantagh, N.Y.) paced the Pioneers with a third-place finish (19:02.19) in the 5,000-meter race. Her time is now the second fastest in school history, just one second behind current assistant coach Christa Morris. Finishing ninth was Jenn McLaughlin (Seaford, N.Y.) with a 19:29.03 showing. Alexa Montegari (Wanaque, N.J.) finished 14th with a personal-best time of 19:45.26, while Shaylyn Stehl (Wantagh, N.Y.) and Angelica Price (Tampa, Fla.) were 17th (20:01.47), and 18th (20:02.02), respectively, both personal bests. Jessica Wiking (Farmingdale, N.Y.), Brooke Rozea (Syosset, N.Y), and Sara McLaughlin (Seaford, N.Y.) rounded out the scoring for the Pioneers. Wiking recorded a 33rd-place finish, while Rozea placed 41st, and McLaughlin finished 51st.
Head Coach Rob Morris and his LIU Post squads are back in action next Saturday (Sept. 28), when they head to Rochester, N.Y. for the Harry F. Anderson Invitational, hosted by Roberts Wesleyan.
