Men's Cross Country Places Second, Women Take Fifth at Harry Anderson Invite

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (Sept. 28, 2013) - In the third cross country meet of the 2013 season on Saturday, the men's and women's teams both had solid runs at the Harry Anderson Invitational, held on the Roberts Wesleyan campus in Rochester, N.Y.
For the men, Mike Scott (Fultonville, N.Y.) led the way, placing second in the 8,000-meter race (25:53.8). Right behind him was red-shirt senior Matt O'Keefe (East Rockaway, N.Y.) (26:03.1) in third. Joseph Lasher (Seaford, N.Y.) rounded out the Top-10 with a 26:28.3 showing. Sophomore Steven Arnone (Staten Island, N.Y.) finished in back of Lasher with a time of 26:59.9. Close behind was senior Thomas Speicher (Levittown, N.Y.) with a time of 27:06.3. Freshman Tyler McGarvey (Babylon, N.Y.) rounded out the Pioneer runners in 27th place (27:26.2).
For the women, Elizabeth Stirling (Wantagh, N.Y.) paced the Pioneers with a 15th-place finish (18:59.3) in the 5,000-meter race. Her clocking is now the fastest 5k time in school history as well. Finishing 23rd was Jenn McLaughlin (Seaford, N.Y.) with a 19:14.1 showing. Angelica Price (Tampa, Fla.) placed 38th (19:45.1). Alexa Montegari (Wanaque, N.J.) finished with a time of 20:13.5, while Shaylyn Stehl (Wantagh, N.Y.) crossed at 20:52.4. Jessica Wiking (Farmingdale, N.Y.), and Sara McLaughlin (Seaford, N.Y.) rounded it out for the Pioneers. Wiking recorded a 21:33.4 clocking, while McLaughlin finished at 21:46.6.
Head Coach Rob Morris and his LIU Post squads are back in action next Saturday (Oct. 5), when they head to Jersey City, N.J. for the NJIT Challenge.
