WASHINGTON, D.C. (Jan. 4, 2017) - On Wednesday, the LIU Post men's basketball team suffered an 87-81 loss to East Coast Conference foe University of the District of Columbia at the UDC Sports Complex.

The Pioneers (4-10, 3-2 ECC) shot a sizzling 52.5 percent (31-of-59) from the field and 63.2 percent (12-of-19) from deep in the loss. They also out-rebounded the Firebirds (7-6, 4-1 ECC) by a 35-28 count.

Tied 40-40 with three-plus minutes in the first half, the green and gold reeled off an 11-3 run in a three-minute stint to grab a 51-43 advantage in the final seconds. Junior guard Kyle McLeggan (Jersey City, N.J.) scored a team-high five points in the stretch. Senior guard Jemal Mosley (Nanuet, N.Y.) chipped in four points.

In the latter period, UDC, which trailed 51-44 at the break, opened the half on a 21-4 streak to go in front 65-55 with 11:46 to go. Senior guard Kasim Chandler (Newark, N.J.) bookended the burst with three-pointers.

However, LIU Post fought back, using a 14-5 response to close the gap to a one-possession game (76-74) at the 3:32 mark. Senior forward Greg Dotson (Abington, Pa.) and Mosley each buried a trey in the spurt. Freshman forward Richard Altenord (Dix Hills, N.Y.) netted a lay-up to pull the contest within a basket.

That was as close as the Pioneers got though, as the Firebirds never relinquished their lead. Additionally, the green and gold were held to just one field goal in the final 1:35 of regulation.

Mosley scored a team-best 24 points on 9-of-12 shooting in the effort. Dotson collected 23 points and nine rebounds. Senior guard Jared Hall (South Orange, N.J.) totaled nine points and 10 rebounds. McLeggan had nine points in 15 minutes off the bench. Red-shirt junior guard Aary Bibens (Bennington, Vt.) pitched in eight points, three rebounds and three assists.

Head Coach Erik Smiles and his LIU Post squad now return home to face ECC opponent Roberts Wesleyan College on Saturday (Jan. 7) at 4 p.m. at the Pratt Recreation Center in Brookville, N.Y.
