ROCHESTER, N.Y. (Feb. 11, 2017) - On Saturday, the LIU Post men's basketball team won its third-consecutive game, defeating Roberts Wesleyan College, 80-74, in an East Coast Conference contest at the Voller Athletic Center.
In a game where neither team led by double digits, the Pioneers (8-16, 7-7 ECC) came on strong late to earn the victory.
Tied at 59-59 with over five minutes left in regulation, the green and gold used a 15-6 run in a span of 4:28 to open up a 74-65 lead at the 1:10 mark. Senior guard
Jared Hall (South Orange, N.J.) bookended the burst with a pair of free throws. Fellow senior guard
Jemal Mosley (Nanuet, N.Y.) and junior guard
Kyle McLeggan (Jersey City, N.J.) each added a trey.
The Pioneers were clutch from the line in the final minutes, making 13-of-17 attempts over the last 5:38 to seal the win.
In the first half, the visitors trailed 32-24 with just over three minutes left, until LIU Post ended the period on a 12-2 burst to take a slight two-point cushion (36-34) into the locker room. Red-shirt junior guard
Aary Bibens (Bennington, Vt.) accounted for five points in the run. McLeggan ignited the comeback with a three-pointer.
Hall scored a game- and season-high 25 points and grabbed nine rebounds in the effort. He shot 8-of-15 from the floor and 9-of-11 from the stripe. McLeggan totaled 14 points, in addition to amassing three rebounds and two assists. Bibens contributed 13 points, five rebounds, three assists, two blocks and two steals off the bench. Mosley had 12 points, two assists and one steal.
For the contest, the Pioneers shot 46.6 percent (27-of-58) from the field and 41.7 percent (10-of-24) from beyond the arc. They also swiped eight steals to the Redhawks' (2-21, 1-13 ECC) four.
