BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Feb. 15, 2017) - On Wednesday night, the LIU Post men's basketball team extended its winning streak to four games with an 88-67 rout of East Coast Conference nemesis University of the District of Columbia at the Pratt Recreation Center.
Senior guard
Jemal Mosley (Nanuet, N.Y.) poured in 19 first-half points, en route to a 22-point day. Fellow senior guard
Jared Hall (South Orange, N.J.) had 16 points on 8-of-14 shooting. He also grabbed three rebounds and dished out three assists. Red-shirt junior guard
Aary Bibens (Bennington, Vt.) collected 13 points, five rebounds and a pair of assists.
In all, the Pioneers (9-16, 8-7 ECC) shot 47.9 percent (34-of-71) from the field, 40.9 percent (9-of-22) from three-point range and 84.6 percent (11-of-13) from the free-throw line in the game.
Furthermore, the green and gold committed just 10 turnovers in the contest, while outscoring the Firebirds (12-11, 9-6 ECC) by an overwhelming 18-5 count on miscues.
Leading 38-33 with just over three minutes left in the first half, the hosts reeled off an 11-2 run in a span of 2:33 to grab a 49-35 advantage at the 46-second mark.
Mosley, who sank four three-pointers in te opening 20 minutes, and junior guard
Kyle McLeggan (Jersey City, N.J.) each buried a trey in the streak. Hall got things started with a put-back lay-up.
The Pioneers eventually took a 12-point lead (49-37) into the break, and kept their foot to the gas pedal in the second half.
More than three minutes into the latter period, LIU Post held a 51-40 cushion, until a 9-0 spurt in a stint of 2:32 widened the gap to an insurmountable 20-point margin (60-40) with 14:19 left.
Bibens ignited the run with a three-pointer. Freshman forward
Kyle Doucette (Lynn, Mass.) followed with back-to-back baskets. Freshman guard
Jared Rivers (Westbury, N.Y.) capped it off with a transition lay-up.
Doucette nearly finished with a double-double, amassing 10 points, nine rebounds and two blocks. McLeggan chipped in eight points, three rebounds, three assists and two steals. RIvers and junior forward
Hunter Powell (Tustin, Mich.) had six points apiece. Powell pulled down four rebounds, as well.

Erik Smiles and the Pioneers are back in action Saturday (Feb. 18), when they close out their 2016-17 home schedule with a 4 p.m. tilt against ECC foe Queens College at the Pratt Recreation Center.
