Williams Garners ECC Track Athlete of the Week Distinction

CENTRAL ISLIP, N.Y. (Feb. 6, 2017) - On Monday, the East Coast Conference gave out its weekly indoor track and field awards, and LIU Post junior women's runner Talya Williams (Schenectady, N.Y.) was named the league's track athlete of the week.

It is the second time in her collegiate career that Williams has earned weekly recognition from the conference in indoor track. She previously won the honor as a freshman on Dec. 9, 2014.

Williams clocked a second-place time of 9:57.85 in the 3,000-meter run last Friday (Feb. 3) to help propel the Pioneers to a ninth-place finish at the Metropolitan Championships. She led the race until the final lap and broke her own school record in the process.

Williams and the Pioneers return to action Saturday (Feb. 11), when they compete at the St. Joseph's College Winter Invitational at St. Anthony's High School at 10 a.m. in South Huntington.
