WEST BABYLON, N.Y. – Junior Alexandria Okon of the LIU Post women's track and field team was named East Coast Conference Indoor Track & Field Athlete of the Year, as announced by the conference office Friday.
 
Okon had an outstanding indoor season for LIU Post, winning the 800 meters at the ECC Championships with a time of 218.21 seconds. At the Spartan Invitational she posted the fourth fastest time in the region in the 800 meters after clocking in at 2:17.78 seconds.  In December at the Wagner Shootout she posted a time of 1:38.93 seconds to finish second in the 600 meters and helped LIU Post win the 4x400 meter relay after the Pioneers clocked in at 4:08.88 seconds. She also earned ECC Track Athlete of the week honors on Monday, Jan. 7 and Monday, Jan. 14.
 
Several other Pioneers garnered All-Conference honors; the top two finishers in each event were named First Team All-Conference, while the third and fourth place finishers were named to the second team.
 
Women's first team honorees included Okon in the 800 meters, sophomore Kayra Theodore in the high jump junior Kaitlyn Klein in the shot put and weight throw and freshman Imoniri Aghomon in the weight throw.
 
Second team honorees were sophomore Nataly Ramirez in the 500 meters, the quartet of junior Nicolette Agostinacchio, Ramirez, freshman Margaret McKeever and Okon in the 4x400 meter relay and Aghomon in the shot put.
 
On the men's side sophomore Destyn Harding was a first team honoree in the 60 meters while freshman DeAndre Smith was named to the first team in the high jump. Freshman Ismail Abdullah earned second team accolades in the 60 meter hurdles.
