WEST BABYLON, N.Y. – Junior
Alexandria Okon of the LIU Post women's track and field team was honored as the East Coast Conference (ECC) Women's Track & Field Preseason Athlete of the Year, as announced by the league Friday.
Okon earned a first-place finish in the 500-meters (1:17.47) at the 2018 ECC Championships after clocking in at 1:17.47 seconds. She also earned top-four finishes on six other occasions in 2018; she was runner up in the 400-meters (1:00.93) at the St. Josephʹs College Winter Invitational, the 500-meters (1:17.71) at the Ramapo College Season Opener, and the 800-meters at the Yale Collegiate Invitational (2:18.88). She also helped the Pioneers to a pair of relay wins with top finishes in the 4x400-meters at the Ramapo Opener (4:05.52) and the 4x200-meters at the St. Josephʹs Invitational (1:48.87).
She's had an impressive start to the 2019 season, being named ECC Women's Indoor Track Athlete of the Week on Monday, Jan. 7 and Monday, Jan. 14.
As a team, both the Pioneer men and women were chosen to finish fifth in the conference with 59 and 76 votes respectively.
