GRAND LAKE, Colo. (May 13, 2017) - On Friday, the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association released its 2017 All-Region teams, and LIU Post had six players honored on the North squad.

Senior attacker Connor Bird (Syosset, N.Y.), senior defender Cara Douglas (West Islip, N.Y.) and junior goaltender Olivia Kirk (Farmingdale, N.Y.) headlined the Pioneers' representation with first-team selections.

Bird, a three-time IWLCA All-Region honoree, led the Pioneers in scoring in the regular season with 55 points (37 G, 18 A). She has registered at least a point in each of the team's 18 contests this year.

Furthermore, Bird, who was named to the All-ECC First Team in 2017, is currently tied with freshman teammate Alyssa Mallery (Wantagh, N.Y.) for the fourth-most draw controls (59) in the league.

Meanwhile, Douglas has guided a defensive unit that has limited the opposition to the fewest goals allowed (115) in the ECC and the fifth-lowest goals-against average (6.34) in Division II.

Between the pipes, Kirk repeated as the ECC Goalkeeper of the Year, after compiling a 13-2 regular-season record with 101 saves and a 6.78 goals-against average.

She presently sports a league-leading 16-2 mark with 129 saves. Additionally, Kirk's .541 save percentage and 6.45 goals-against average rank second- and fourth-best in the nation, respectively.

Sophomore midfielder Ryan McKinney (Downingtown, Pa.) and Mallery were chosen to the IWLCA All-North Region Second Team.

McKinney has tallied a team-leading 58 goals and 67 points for the green and gold this season. She has also converted 25-of-40 free-position attempts for a league-leading .625 success rate.

Mallery is the second Pioneer freshman in as many years to claim IWLCA All-Region accolades. In her debut campaign, she has scored the third-most goals (30) on the team and added eight assists for 38 points.

Lastly, senior defender Kelly Backus (Oceanside, N.Y.) earned a spot on the IWLCA All-North Region Third Team. She has amassed 22 ground balls and eight caused turnovers in her final season, and teamed up with Douglas to hold opponents to an ECC-best average of 6.34 goals per contest.
