Women's Lacrosse Lands Four on IWLCA All-America Team

GRAND LAKE, Colo. (May 18, 2017) - On Thursday, four members of the LIU Post women's lacrosse team were named to the 2017 Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association Division II All-America Team.

Senior attacker Connor Bird (Syosset, N.Y.) and junior goalie Olivia Kirk (Farmingdale, N.Y.) garnered first-team honors, while senior defender Cara Douglas (West Islip, N.Y.) and sophomore midfielder Ryan McKinney (Downingtown, Pa.) were tabbed as second-team selections.

The four honorees will be recognized at the IWLCA All-American Banquet on Saturday, Jun. 3 at the Hunt Valley Inn in Hunt Valley, Md.

Bird was the team's second-leading scorer in 2017, tallying 41 goals and 20 assists for 61 points. She ranked in the Top-15 in the ECC in goals, assists and points and placed fourth amongst the league's leaders in draw controls (60).

Kirk, who repeated as the ECC Goalkeeper of the Year, compiled a league-best 16-3 record with a 6.42 goals-against average and a Division II-leading .543 save percentage. She never allowed more than 11 goals in a game and boasted a stellar 5.68 goals-against average in ECC play.

Douglas had 32 draw controls and 24 ground balls and caused a team-high 22 turnovers in 2017 for the nation's No. 3 scoring defense, which yielded a league-leading average of 6.32 goals per game.

McKinney set the scoring standard for the Pioneers this season, amassing a team-best 59 goals and nine assists for 68 points. Her 59 tallies ranked third-most amongst the league's top goal-scorers.

Additionally, McKinney finished the year on an 18-game point streak and converted 25-of-43 free-position attempts for a .581 success rate.
