Brookville, N.Y. – Despite falling 102-70 to regionally-ranked Daemen College Friday night inside the Pratt Recreation Center, the LIU Post men's basketball team was buoyed by a career-high 25 points from freshman
Seth Goumba as it earned a season-high in total points and made a season-best 12 three-pointers.
Daemen, who checked in at No. 5 in the NCAA Division II East Region poll released on Tuesday, Dec. 4, moved to 6-1 overall and 2-0 in East Coast Conference Play.
Along with LIU Post's 70 points and 12 made three-pointers being season-bests, the Pioneers' 11 assists were also a season-high and the Green & Gold had its best night of the season from the foul line as it went 10-of-12 for 83 percent.
Along with his 25 points being a career-high, Goumba connected on 7-of-10 field goals, 7-of-9 three-point attempts and went 4-of-4 from the free-throw line. His seven made three pointers were the most made by an LIU Post player this season and the most made by a Pioneer since Nov. 19, 2017 when
Jared Rivers made eight in the Pioneers 91-88 triumph over Pace University. Goumba was only two shy of the program record of nine that is held by Raul Mercedes and was set against Saint Anselm in 2006.
While Goumba made one three-pointer in the first half it was the second he had the hot hand as he went 6-of-7 and scored 18 points in 19 minutes.
Sophomore Alonzo-Ortiz Traylor added 21 points and tied the game-high with nine rebounds; he has now scored 20 or more points in six of the Pioneers seven games this season.
