BROOKVILLE, N.Y. – The LIU Post men's basketball team fell 112-57 to Southern Connecticut State University in its first game of 2019 Wednesday inside the Pratt Recreation Center.
Sophomore Alonzo Ortiz-Traylor led the Pioneers in scoring and rebounding with 16 and seven while freshman Nah'Jel Sands went 5-of-11 from the field as he added 10 points. Senior Jamal David recorded career-highs in scoring and rebounding with seven and six off the bench.
David got hot at the end of the first half as he knocked down a jumper with 4:42 on the clock and followed with a pull-up jumper from beyond the arc with 1:44 remaining. He made with a driving layup with 38 seconds remaining in the half on route to his career-high point total.
While the Owls limited Ortiz-Traylor to three points in the first half he finished with 13 in the second. He knocked down a three-pointer with 10:41 left to play and another with 9:19 on the clock as he found his rhythm in the latter stages of the game. He connected on jumpers with 8:13, 3:46 and 23 seconds left to play as his total rise to 16.
