BROOKVILLE, N.Y. – Sophomore Alonzo-Ortiz Traylor reached the 30-point mark for the tenth time this season Saturday afternoon, but it was not enough to get the LIU Post men's basketball team over the line as it fell 90-66 to Mercy College inside the Pratt Recreation Center.
Ortiz-Traylor's 30 points were a team-high and included a 10-for-11 performance at the free throw line; he also added nine rebounds. Freshman
Kendell Ogilvie added 10 points and a team and career-high 13 rebounds while freshman
Liam Kunkel finished with 10 points.
The Pioneers had a strong start to the game as redshirt senior
Neil Feminella found freshman
Nah'Jel Sands for a jumper in the paint with 19:46 on the clock in what was the first basket of the game.
Ogilvie knocked down three-pointers with 19:10 and 16:58 left in the half to give the Pioneers an 8-7 lead. The Pioneers and Mavericks continued trading baskets until Ogilvie's jumper with 14:24 remaining gave LIU Post a 15-13 advantage. However, it would be the Pioneers' final lead of the game as Mercy built a lead and took a 43-33 advantage into halftime.
The second half played out much like the end of the first with LIU Post struggling to contain Mercy's size inside. The Mavericks went on to take the win, 90-66.
