The tentative date for auditions for the 2018-19 season will be held on April 13, 2018.

The LIU Post dance team is comprised of 12-20 dancers. Members of the team perform at football games, basketball games, and events on campus. All members of the team must audition for a spot on our nationals routines.

Auditions
The LIU Post dance team holds auditions in the late spring. The number of spots filled is dependent on the number of dancers who meet the minimum criteria, ability and skill level and potential for improvement. Auditions may be held at other times throughout the season. When selecting dancers, we are looking for individuals that demonstrate proper technical elements, perform choreography given, strength, confidence, leadership, and commitment to the program. All dance team placements are ultimately at the discretion of the head coach.

The requirements below are general guidelines of skills that the judges are looking for. These may change at the coach's discretion:
  • Double and Triple Pirouettes
  • Straddles/Turning Disc
  • Calypsos and jetes
  • Headstands/Headsprings/Kip Ups
  • Turns a la second combinations
  • Flexibility (extensions, tilts and leg grab turns)
  • Acro (aerials, walkovers)
  • POM placement

The final team will be dependent upon attitude, effort, skill and skill progression.

FAQ
What do I need to bring to auditions?
  1. Headshot of yourself (non-returnable)
  2. A prepared jazz solo (minimum of one minute, music on iPad or iPhone to play through an aux cord)
  3. A signed copy of the Audition Release Form
  4. Tryout application submitted to Head Coach

What do I need to wear for auditions?
  • Fitted tank top/ sports bra and booty shorts
  • Jazz shoes and sneakers
  • Hair and makeup gameday ready

What if I can't make the spring auditions?
  • Email us right away and we'll try to accommodate you if we can. The farther in advance we know, the better chance there is we can work something out with you.
